Buxton, Jarvis

Jarvis Buxton (1820-1902) from Fayetteville, NC, joined the Philanthropic Society in 1837 and graduated with third honors in 1839. He became a minister in the Protestant Episcopal church, establishing missions throughout the North Carolina mountains. He also opened the successful Ravenscroft School in Asheville, NC (Dictionary of North Carolina Biography 1:292-93).
